With POWER BI, the company now has a more complete view of data from multiple providers, increased agility and efficiency, and 30% fewer support requests.

By using the POWER BI tool, the mass media company now has a more complete view of data from its multiple providers, leading to a 30% reduction in support requests, as well as increased agility and efficiency.

Condé Nast is a multinational mass media company based in New York that was founded in 1909. Today, they have more than 164 million clients and a range of publications that are sold all over the world, such as The New Yorker, Vogue, and Vanity Fair.

The company needed to be able to better understand the impact of its brand and its clients' behavior. However,  the analytical tools at the time were limited when it came to combining data from different sources, which was a time-consuming process. They needed to collect data from over 10 different brand research companies, including comScore, Mediamark Research (MRI), Omniture, and Kantar. The company also wanted a way to provide analytical information to their editorial and sales teams. That’s why they needed Business Intelligence tools.

Specifically, they needed a single, centralized system with the ability to provide reports and advanced analytics.

In 2013, Conde Nast began using Power BI, a cloud-based solution from Microsoft, combined with Office 365 and SQL Server. Starting with the marketing department using a proof of concept test for Vogue and Wired magazines, they began to create websites and interactive reports with Power BI that analyzed consumer behavior, competition, market shares, which devices their sites were being accessed on, and traffic.

After its initial success, the next step was to integrate data from social media networks, like Facebook and Twitter, to provide a more complete analysis.

By using Power BI, Condé Nast increased its earnings and opened the door to new things that hadn’t been possible previously. The reports they use now are highly interactive and visual, and also have the ability to support data from multiple sources.

Another improvement Condé Nast gained through Power BI’s tools is that their employees can now easily use advanced analytical tools, due to the tool’s accessible interface. In fact, they can often respond to questions that come up simply by searching.

This has led to a 30% reduction in support requests and a considerable improvement in efficiency in the decision-making process, as there is no longer a need to wait while the  marketing department collects data and responses.

You might think that only huge companies like Condé Nast can afford powerful BI tools and predictive analytics, but these things are no longer just a luxury - they’re a reality that’s accessible for all kinds of businesses.
